From Runescape to Cubic Castles, I've been playing Economy games for a long while. Currency can be an amazing tool in majority of systems, especially if it's handled by the community rather than the game devs. Getting full control over an economy means you can do some pretty cool stuff and still affect the economy people are using. Runescape uses gold, Cubic Castles uses Cubits, and games like Pixel Worlds uses gems, byte coins, and "world locks".
