So I'm the type of guy to make about a ton of different pixel art things within the confines of Gimp, but today I tried something new. Aseprite is something that has been completely out of my realm, but I gave it a solid shot. Here are my first impressions:
I should start off by saying, everyone struggles with new applications. I can't fault the application for feeling clunky or having confusing toolbars when I'm just not used to it. People could come into Gimp completely unaware of how to work it, and trash the idea of using it for pixel art completely.
Here's the first thing I made in Aseprite; at the moment I call her "Aseprite Girl" because I couldn't be bothered to come up with something super original-- with the time I'm making this & writing this blog post at least.
She wears a Link-esque hat, a color-block hoodie and some normal jeans and shoes.
I'm hoping to make a lot more progress down the line, and see how I can transfer my usual shading and pixel art techniques over to Aseprite instead. I will probably post updates and let you know which one I prefer over the other on a later date in a different blog post.
