2D Block Design Is Difficult, Yet Rewarding

I've been trying out some designs on 2d sprites, 32x32 dimensions to be exact. I like adding something to the border, like it's caving in for something natural-- then if it's something cold, like for ice; I like to add a bit of fogginess onto it. As you can see by the way I shaded this- the ice fogs outwards and reveals whatever is behind it. Could be something stuck in there, or it could be a completely normal background. All up to creative design.

Also, people really like 2D games compared to 3D games. That could be a really surprising statistic for those into game design in general. I personally like simple things, and 2D fits nicely for what I work with- but I am definitely interested in making 3D stuff when I'm into Unity(which I have minor knowledge with already).

A lot of people like to use Aseprite, but personally I can't stand that program(its UI is very convoluted for me) and just how it looks overall(I know it has a themes system, but it doesn't save it imo).

I like to use Gimp for pixel art, and most of Img Manipulation in general. It's also how I make my thumbnails along with OBS screenshotting(weird system, but it works and that's all that matters to me!)

If anyone is interested in my toolset, you can find Gimp here.
